As a designer with 20 years of work experience, I’m often too senior for a Senior Graphic Design role, but lack on-figure photo for an Art Director role, places me in work limbo. As a AD/CD: I'm a "Jill of all trades, master at most", but with the wherewithal to know that “we can hire for that”. I know what I don’t know, but can assemble the right team to get the job done. I'm a very hands-on manager (but not micro); I don't mind getting my hands dirty and nothing is above me. As long as I can do it, I will. I hate missing deadlines.
I have tons of experience in the digital marketing space: developing 360 campaigns from campaign concepting to landing page > email marketing > social > Google Ads. I especially love metrics and email marketing, it's one of those touch points where you can do an A/B test and see where your designs actually convert and affect sales. I may not be a UX/UI designer, but I can take what exists and make it great. I'm not a video editor, but I know how to storyboard the concept for the team to bring it to life. I'm currently learning generative AI, cause you know... we’re not going backwards; this is the future.
It's a rare thing to be able to straddle both print and digital nowadays, luckily, I can do both. Working at 2 publications, I'm an expert at InDesign. I can confidently produce a brochure to a whole store barricade. I've handled projects like trade shows where we build worlds from the ground up. Packaging? Check out my work with Kopari, I helped transition their whole product line (primary and secondary) from their old brand to their current one. Shelf talkers, in-store displays, GWP boxes, influencer boxes... you name it, I've probably done it. Sourcing vendors and bids for best pricing? Let’s negotiate! Interfacing with partners like printers and architects? No problem.
What am I looking for in my next role? To really answer that, is really to see where I've been. I've had a lot of big fish/small pond roles, a few small fish/big pond roles. The breadth of my experience and agile, problem-solving abilities makes me well-suited for start-ups. I'm usually the designer that they bring on when they're ready to push through their next round of funding or just about to hit it big. I'm suited with that. For small fish/big pond roles, I'd be happy to take a step down in title to get to hone in on specific skills and receive some mentorship. I know I haven't learned everything (but I’ve learned a lot), as often times I learned by executing, but not always having the space to craft.
So, yeah, that's me. I'm obviously pragmatic, willing to roll up my sleeves and put my cards on the table. And on a personal note, I love food (but have no F&B experience).
